I know, I know, I am very horrible at updating, which is sad, because I do have quite a bit that I can talk about. I always say I will try harder, but we know that never happens. I’m still thinking about using Apple’s MobileMe service for blog purposes, but that’s not something I plan on worrying about any time soon. What I do plan on doing is posting a list of things every Friday, covering things like songs I think everyone should hear to celebrities I’d like to punch in the throat. This will at least give you few folks that check my blog something to read every week, and perhaps it will inspire me to update on a regular basis, but don’t hold your breath on that.
The last couple months have been somewhat eventful. Shay and I moved out my dad’s place at the start of November, and while it left me frazzled for a good 5 or 6 weeks, and truth be told, I’m still a bit scared to be on my own, I’m starting to settle in. So far, Shay and I haven’t struggled to pay rent or buy groceries, which makes me feel pretty awesome. Before she moved out here, her and I both saved up money for damage deposit and household things, and I love the fact that we were able to buy a lot of stuff, like dishes and such things brand new, pick them out together. We’re still being pretty frugal with out money, only buying things we really need, not splurging on things unless we get a bit of extra cash. We probably can spend a bit more for things on ourselves, but we are making sure that rent and groceries and stuff for our pets comes first.
Oscar and Felix are hilarious rabbits. They like to hump each other, Oscar humping Felix happens more often than Felix humping Oscar, but it still amuses me. They’re becoming more comfortable with being outside of the cage and enjoy running around and exploring, except on the kitchen floor where they cannot get any traction and just slip around. One day I really want to set up a maze using all the cardboard boxes we have from the move, but Shay and I are pretty sure they will just try to eat the boxes.
Bowser is also doing pretty good. We are trying to make him better around people, which is something I have been horrendous at since getting him, but we haven’t been spending as much time with him since we got the rabbits. We do plan on getting him a bigger cage at some point in the future to give him some more room to move around.
Shay’s birthday was quiet, but Christmas was spent doing a lot of running around. Her birthday was spent at home, watching movies and hanging out. For Christmas we first went to my friend Melissa’s house for a breakfast of eggs and two kinds of bacon. After that it was off to my dad’s place where we spent time with my dad, my brother and his girlfriend, and then it was off to my nana’s for dinner with her, my mom and my uncle. Finally, we all headed back to another uncle’s place to hang out with more of my dad’s family.
The Christmas haul was good this year. Mom got me a vacuum (which Shay and I desperately needed), some Adidas cologne/deodarant/body wash, a Chapters gift card, matching toques for Shay and I, and then the usual socks and things like that. She also gave me a cheque for a grand, which was completely unexpected and incredibly generous. Nana did her normal giftbag with socks and candy and personal hygiene products, along with a Co-op giftcard and $100 cash, and my uncle Steve gave me a gift card for Wal-Mart. My brother and Dad pitched in and got me a new XBOX 360, and Trudy (dad’s girlfriend) got me the Quantum of Solace game. Dad also got me a Star Wars Clone Trooper helmet, and I think that’s it. My favorite gifts game from Shay. She got me Joker, a graphic novel written by Brian Azzarello with art by Lee Bermejo [get spelling] and what is possibly the best gift ever, a stuffed narwhal, which I have named Francis. Shay’s dad and stepmom sent me a card and a Starbucks giftcard, which was unnecessary, but nevertheless very nice of them.
With the Chapters giftcard from my mom, I bought some more Batman graphic novels: Batman Year One (Frank Miller/David Mazzuchelli), The Dark Knight Returns (Frank Miller) and Dark Victory (Jeph Loeb/Time Sale) and with the cash from my nana I bought a play and charge pack for my 360 controllers and Mirror’s Edge, which I am enjoying a lot, though Shay can’t stand the animation in the cutscenes. I haven’t spent the Wal-Mart giftcard yet or any of the money from my mom, but I’ve decided to put the money towards a PS3, and perhaps the Wal-Mart giftcard as well. If I don’t get the PS3 at Wal-Mart, then I’ll use the giftcard towards an electric mixer for Shay and I. We were at the grocery store the other day and we found some gluten-free cake mixes and stuff, so it’ll be nice to have a mixer to make them with.
So that pretty much covers the exciting stuff for the last couple of months. I’m stuck working New Year’s Eve and day, but with the new way work is doing the schedules, I’m finally starting to get the days off that I want, which is nice. I’m also waiting to hear back about another job in TELUS that I applied for, so hopefully that works out for me. It’d be more money, better hours and Sundays off, but we will have to see what happens.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy new year.
